Like the other reviewers, I found the instructions leave a bit to be desired. Primarily because it doesn't have a step by step written description - you have to go purely off the exploded views. While that is do-able, I like having the written description to validate the steps.

Anyway after careful examination of the instructions and matching parts I had it assembled in about an hour. I'm pleased with it because it does exactly what I wanted it to - help me stretch in smaller increments than I was able to before.

Like others, I found the indicator is 20 degrees off - I simply marked the proper place to read from with a dot of red nail polish. One reviewer was disappointed it moves in 5 degree increments, which I initially thought was incorrect since the indicator is graduated in 2 1/2 degree increments, but I found every time you move the lever 1 click, the angle increases by 2 marks which is 5 degrees. Still this is more incremental than my old method - the stairs. When I reached my max there I couldn't go up another stair safely without risking injury. So this machine has done its job in allowing a more incremental stretch. I've had it about a month and have increased by 20 degrees and can already see my kicks getting higher.

Despite many others' reviews, I found the instructions to be somewhat clear, though they could have been formatted better referencing what others have said about having to continually flip back and forth between written instructions and schematic drawing. I actually just assembled the thing mainly from looking at the picture on the box using the directions only for hardware reference and bolt size comparison. I am an aerospace engineering student though so my experience may not be representative of the general consensus. All in all I love the product and feel it was money well spent.Endurance B2U, Yukon Denali Spin Bike, Xiser Commercial , Crescendo Fitness Folding, Stamina 7250, Titan Water Rower, StairMaster 4600CL, IV400 PRO Home, Freemotion Incline Trainer, Endurance B2.5R, First Degree Fitness, Livestrong LS Pro1, Game Rider Pro , Crescendo Fitness Power , Gravity 7 Long Term, Smooth Fitness 8.35 , Diamondback 1260ef , Kettler Unix P 7652-000, Fitnex Light Commercial, Helix Commercial , Smooth Fitness SMT-935I, Spirit Esprit EL-355, First Degree Fitness , Health Mark Vertical , Aristo Commercial , ProForm 850, Pompano - Elliptical , DKN Technology Xg3, Kettler Fitness Montana , Sole TT8, Bladez X350, First Degree Fitness, Precor EFX 546 , LifeSpan Fitness TR , Magnetic Foldable Recumbent, Livestrong Fitness LS15.0T, Precor 956, Sole F83 , Precor EFX 5.17i , Stamina Airgometer, Bladez Fitness SX Pro, LifeCore Fitness LC-550, H2O Fitness, Life Fitness 95Ci, Horizon CST 3, First Degree Fitness , StreetStrider JET, Kettler Coach M , Body Solid Weight-Assist , Stamina Versa-Bell II , HCI Fitness Sprint, Proform 585 , G-Power 10M , Fitnex R70, Stamina Suzanne Somers, Phoenix 98836

Agreeing with everyone else, I found the angle indicator to be about 20 degrees off but this can be fixed by proper cable adjustment.

Several others on here have mentioned that more guidance on how best to use the machine to increase flexibility would be good. This guidance can be purchased from: http://www.budovideos.com/shop/customer/product.php?productid=16718&utm_medium=shoppingengine&utm_source=nextag&source=nextag in the way of an instructional DVD on how to properly use the machine by none other than Bill "Superfoot" Wallace for a mere ten dollars.

I too use the machine on carpet and that prevents the 'sudden release' problem that others have described.

The setup was moderately difficult. 1 to 10, I would give it a 8. I was able to put it together in an hour. If you've put together alot of IKEA or Walmart furniture together, then it should be no problem. Basically it's 6 main pieces for the frame. The hardest of these is the pulley piece, but it was not that bad as long as you have a good build concept & already good at putting things together. After the frame, the rest are just the padding on the frame. 2 screws each, easy. Everything fit perfectly, no issues.

They do go thru the steps, but at a very high level. They don't hold your hands thru the process like IKEA instructions do. But if you are good at diagrams, all you need are the 2 included hex keys, and note the Screw # to use for each piece and it will be easy. Even easier if you have an electric driver with hex key.

Using the strecher is great. The crank system is excellent. You DO NOT have to crank it more to release it. All you need to do is pull it towards you, and it releases immediately. My 14, 10, and 5 year old are all now using it with no problems. The leg attachment can be adjusted with 3 holes at different placements. My 5 year old is well supported, as well as me at 5'10''. There are handles in front, and on both sides for deep streching. The quality feels excellent. I would highly recommend this leg strecher.

First, I don't know why everyone finds this so complicated to assemble. I had it working in less than an hour. The trick is to make photocopies of the first four pages with that part list and diagrams. that way, you're not constantly flipping back to the beginning to see what bolt #26 is.

Second, you don't have to increase the stretch to release it, just pull the lever towards you and it releases on it's own. the only part of this i dont like is, when it releases, it's a little jarring. no big deal though.
My wife and I both love this thing. i saved [...] and it was here before the website even indicated that it had shipped. I was surprised. The degree indicator does appear to be off about 20degrees like stated in a previous review but I can figure it out no problem. I get a great stretch and it's very comfortable. great machine for the money. I can't wait to reach 180degrees

This is a solid, well built machine. Assembly took 45 minutes. Make sure you have a good workspace and are able to lay everything out more or less where they are going to end up. If you visualize how it's going to go together the instructions and diagrams make more sense. Once it's together it is a gym quality piece of equipment. I used it a few times already and am able to strecth much further, much easier than trying to stretch on my own. Definately worth the money.

Update: 7 days after writing this review my versaflex broke. The cables that move the legs fit into a gear mechanism in the front of the machine and the end of the left cable came loose. There is nothing mechanical holding the ends in, they appear to be held in only by pressure. Now that this end has come loose there is no way (at least none that I can find) to reattach it. I sent Century an email and am waiting for a reply.

Got the replacement. Put the thing together and its been working well. I guess I just got a bad one before.
